In a few weeks time there will be an SC2 tournament held in SEA and they thought it might be a fun idea to trial a map which is a redo of an already existing competitive map. That way they know it will be balanced, the players will already know the layout of the map and what strats are viable and it provides a bit more interest for the spectators.
The tournament organizer was interested in using the map metalopolis but with a space theme. The maps Antiga Shipyards and Day Break were both in the map pool and are also space asteroid maps with their own style and look so I wanted to create a map with a totally different look to both of them. With this task in mind I set about terraining.
The prominent doodads in this map are at the same location and use the same footprint as the doodads in metalopolis so as to not affect the unit pathing or places where you can build buildings.
The tracks circling the centre of the map follow the same routes as the original roads in metalopolis.

Note the inherent imbalance in spawn locations due to the "DO NOT ENTER" sign to confuse opponents.

Centuries ago this asteroid was visited by a lost civilization. The only thing left marking their existence was destructible statues... But surely you would not destroy such an important archeological discovery... surely.

The steam vents of metalopolis have been replaced by the glaring lights of docking bays

a ruined battlecruiser floats adrift. Casualty of a war long forgotten.
